This course demonstrates the legislations and ethics that the media professional must abide by when they do their job. It also demonstrates the importance of following the professional ethics of media practices. Moreover, the course includes some examples of codes of ethics which are used.
Intended Learning Outcomes:
By the completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following:
1.1 Examine freedom of expression in various societies with reference to journal institutions.
1.2 Define responsible media practices.
1.3 Examine the political, regulatory and structural control over the press and media.
1.4 Mention the different special concepts of media ethics and its different legislations.
1.5 Identify the evolution of media ethics and legislation
1.6 Describe the stages of development of the various theories that explain the relationship between political systems and the media.
1.7 Describe the variables of the political, legal, legislative and competitive economic environment that affect media ethics and legislation.
1.8 Discuss some of the ethical problems facing digital media practices.
1.9 Recognize the technological variables and their relationship to media ethics and legislation.
1.10 Be familiar with the codes of conduct and ethics regulating the work of traditional and digital media.
